Pfizer Inc. vs REGENERON PHARMACEUTICALS, INC., two Drug Manufacturers stocks. A side-by-side on valuation, growth, margins, returns, and what each price is betting.
Pfizer keeps under 12 cents of each sales dollar as profit; Regeneron keeps almost 30, and that net-margin gap is the line that separates them. It runs straight through the returns: Regeneron earns about 14% on equity and 11% on assets, against Pfizer's 8% and under 4%, on a balance sheet with almost no debt, 0.06 to Pfizer's 0.71. The market prices the cheaper compounder higher per dollar of profit anyway, near 15 times earnings for Regeneron against 20 for Pfizer, because the earnings underneath are richer. Pfizer's reply is the check it writes shareholders, a 6.6% dividend yield that Regeneron does not match. The bet on Pfizer is largely that yield holding; the bet on Regeneron is the margin staying where it is.
